The third Student IT Architecture Competition (2017-2018) was conducted from November 2017 through March 2018. We had 30 teams registered, of which 14 teams reached the finals. Each team had a industry practitioner as a mentor, and we had 30 mentors from 16 different organizations.
The teams delivered an IT solution architecture to based on a real world need of a non-profit organization. The solution had to leverage emerging technologies, minimize cost of operations and suggest an execution plan. One judge commented that "it is amazing to see the quality of work that the student teams deliver -- clearly they are learning a lot from their mentors". The best team took home a prize of $10,000 with a lion’s share of the five prizes given away.
Working over a period of 4½ months the teams delivered the solution in four stages.
The key deliverables included Business Requirement Document, Conceptual Architecture, Information Architecture, Software Architecture, Security Architecture, User Experience Architecture, Deployment Architecture and Technology Stack and Execution Plan. These deliverables were evaluated by a panel of two judges with a combined experience of over 60 years in IT industry and academia.
The final evaluation included a presentation by each team at an open event in front of the panel of judges.
